Lyrics

Hanging on a Memory
By Daryl Stevenett & Allyson Olson
(Verse 1)
Every day just after sunrise
he parks that old truck in the shade
and get’s out that old lawn chair
and sits down beside her grave
(Verse 2)
Just a single plastic flower
where a headstone ought to be
he just sits there for hours
hanging on a memory
(Chorus)
He packs up that old lawn chair
and heads back into town
he don’t feel like going home
so he just drives around
he doesn’t feel like fishing
never did care much for TV
so he walks around
till the sun goes down
hanging’ on a memory
(Bridge)
He can’t eat, just can’t sleep
doesn’t notice the weather
He thinks about his wife
and every day they spent together
He’s lonely he’s not bitter
and he still believes in God
but his eyes begin to fill with tears
looking down at fresh cut sod
(Verse 3)
I read it in the paper
my old friend passed away
I guess that broken heart of his
was more than he could take
I know they’re both together
foot loose and fancy free
Charlie Parker died last night
hanging on a memory
(Outro)
If there never was a heaven
Oh I’m sure this life would be
Everybody living… hanging on a memory
