Lyrics

Today’s the Day
By Daryl Stevenett
(Verse 1)
In sixteen hundred and twenty-two,
A Spanish ship was loaded down on that water of blue
She was plumb full of silver and gold bars too.
Well it all went down, when the hurricane blew
(Verse 2)
For three hundred years she slept in the sand,
While stories of treasure spread throughout the land
Then a man named Fisher came along to say,
“I’m gonna find that gold some day —
(Chorus)
“Today’s the day, boys, don’t you ever doubt it”
Ya gotta keep the faith boys, and keep thinking about it
Silver and gold treasure that lost it's way
We’ll find her boys — cause’ “today’s the day.”
(Verse 3)
Old Mel searched the gulf for sixteen years,
he suffered through storms and fought back some tears
With family and friends they made many a run
They searched for some gold, and some cannon guns,
(Verse 4)
Mel kept searching every single day
cause' sooner or later he knew he'd finally get paid
In nineteen eighty-five they found the mother-load
Gold and Silver bars just like they were told
(Chorus)
He said, “Today’s the day, boys, let's raise a little toast”
The treasure is ours, don't mind if I boast
The ocean tried to hide that sunken treasure away
But we brought her home boys — “cause today’s the day.”
(Bridge)
Well the keys tried to claim her for their very own
But the high court ruled it was Mel's alone
Now you can see it all down in old Key West,
And Mel Fisher’s dream, was finally laid to rest.
(Final Chorus)
He said, “Today’s the day,” till his dying breath,
Chasing sunken treasure through life and death.
When you take a walk down Duval today
Tip your hat to Mel and say— "Today’s the day"
(Chorus)
He said, “Today’s the day, boys, let's raise a little toast”
Because we found it all boys, laying deep off the coast
The ocean tried to hide that, sunken treasure away
But we brought her home boys — “cause today’s the day.”
yes today’s the day
